A Giant Without a Heart
Google is an undeniable giant in the world of business and technology, but its sheer size and influence have created a significant blind spot: customer service for business listings.
If you unknowingly break one of Google’s “sacred” policies—even unintentionally—the consequences can be devastating. Without notice, your business and every business you manage can be removed from their platform. Imagine the lifeline of your business vanishing overnight, with no explanation and no clear way to fix it.
Sure, Google provides an “appeal process,” but here’s the harsh reality: it’s a black hole of unanswered pleas. Submissions go ignored, emails loop you back to the same vague help articles, and you’re left in a perpetual cycle of despair.
This lack of accountability can have catastrophic effects:
- Your business reputation is at stake. Customers searching for you may think you’ve disappeared or shut down.
- Clients you manage could lose trust in your services. Being associated with “disappearing” businesses harms your credibility.
- Revenue takes an immediate hit. Without visibility, leads dry up, and sales plummet.
Google’s enormous power makes it nearly impossible to hold them accountable, and their lack of contact compounds the damage. For businesses, this isn’t just an inconvenience—it’s a silent killer. For this reason, Waterloo Web Works no longer manages Google Business profiles. At least until something big changes with Googles customer service. We give them zero stars!
Protect yourself: always know the rules, back up your business information, and diversify your online presence (there are other search engines (Microsoft Bing, Yahoo, Baidu, Yandex, DuckDuckGo, Ask.com, and Ecosia to name a few)). Google is powerful, but your livelihood is not their priority. Stay vigilant and don’t let their indifference ruin what you’ve built.
